Ten Rules of Anesthetics

1. Use each cartridge on one patient only.
2. Do not use a cartridge if an air bubble can be seen below the metal cap when the cartridge is held vertically.
3. Always store local anesthetics at recommended temperature as stated on the product's labeling.
4. Solutions containing epinephrine must be protected from light.
5. Do not use a cartridge with any precipitate in it, or one where the solution is not perfectly clear.
6. Cartridges should only be loaded just prior to use.
7. Aspirate before injection.
8. Inject slowly, with aspiration.
9. Use the correct syringe for aspiration.
10. Check syringes for wear regularly and replace if worn.
